Elderly Inclusion

The population in Singapore is ageing at a significant rate. In 2015, 13% of the population was aged 65 or above. By 2030 this subsection of the population will be 24% in Singapore and 26% across South East Asia.

This ageing population will cause many challenges for our society. By working together to foster an age-friendly environment, promote healthy ageing, prevent functional decline and disease among older people we can create a society that encourages and enables elderly inclusion

Migration

Today 3.3% of the world's population live outside their country of birth. More people than ever are being forced to emigrate from their homes due to famine, persecution and war. The current situation is resulting in an increase in tensions, fear and marginalisation for immigrants.

Singapore along with many other western countries currently have a shortage of younger workers entering the workforce, with this problem expected to increase over the next few years.  As a host community we need to work together to bridge the gaps faced by immigrants to enable social inclusion.

Community Cohesion & Security

Community Cohesion requires communities to function and grow together in harmony rather than in conflict. For this to occur we need to find ways to create strong links, encourage equality whilst simultaneously embracing diversity.

As evidenced by the recent spate of attacks around the world there remains an ongoing issue with terrorism and acts of extreme violence. It is important that we come up with methods to protect all members of society to ensure community cohesion and security moving forward

Blood Donation

The need for safe blood and blood products is increasing in Asia Pacific and it is a goal to achieve 100% voluntary blood donation by 2020. Young people are key for a successful outcome : Young people are less exposed to blood transmissible diseases compared to adults and thus it is usually deemed safer to recruit young people as blood donors.

It is essential for Youth to discuss and consider what could a Youth-led initiative be to promote volunteer blood donation from Young people
